United Currency of Russia and Belarus Put Off
April 5, Executive Secretary of Russia-Belarus parliament, Vladimir Aksenov, says that the two states can unite their money systems no earlier than 2006 .
Byelorussian spokesmen believe the postponement is due to the fact that though Moscow keeps insisting on introducing united currency, it still ignores “other problems of the union state”, such as customs problems, indirect tax elimination, and owners’ rights equalization. Mr. Aksenov noted that Russia-Belarus united currency can only result from “logical” completion of economic structure building of the union state, and will be possible after 2006. The Russian side also turned down united currency process acceleration. Finance Minister Aleksei Kudrin asked the premier Mikhail Fradkov to take the matter off from May agenda of the government session as inelaborate, PRIME-TASS reminds.
