Altai Territory to be Headed by Showman Mikhail Yevdokimov
April 5, The second round of gubernatorial election took place in Altai Territory on April 4. According to preliminary information the governor’s post shall be filled with entertainer Mikhail Yevdokimov.
The official site of Altai Territory reports that counting of votes was temporarily stopped at night, since the winner had become clear. At that moment 99.1% of voting-papers had been processed. Within this 99.1%, 46.08% of voters had voted for the incumbent governor Aleksander Surikov, while Mikhail Yevdokimov had been elected by 49.74%; 3.34% of voters had cast their ballots against both candidatures.

Yevdokimov is a popular Russian showman, and has recently been heading the Yevdokimov theater in Moscow. He is a native of Altai Territory and was born in Novokuznetsk in 1957.

This seems to be the first case when a popular showman becomes governor in Russia.
