А String of Environmental Disasters Shakes the Far East
October 4, About 700 birds have been found in Chukotka Autonomous area, whose plumage is damaged by oil. The birds were found by hunters along the coastline of the Chukotka Sea from Neshkan peninsula to Idlidlya island.
At the same time, head of Chukotka region claims the coastline itself is not polluted by oil. To investigate the reasons for the catastrophe, a group of Far East Emergency Center has been sent to the site.
Experts do not exclude that the fuel could have been spilled somewhere in the sea from a damages ship or a drilling platform.
Besides, experts still cannot liquidate an ecocatastrophe near Sakhalin. Today was another lick of oil products from the Christopher Columbus. Let us remind you that September 8, during the Songda typhoon, the ship’s captain was ordered to put out from the Kholmsk port. The captain, however ignored the order and the storm threw the ship on the sandbank. As a result, 200 tons of fuel was spilled in the sea.
