Supplies Launched from Baikonur to Space Station
August 11, The Russian Progress M50 supply ship has been launched towards the Mir Space Station. RIA Novosti news agency reports that the supply ship was launched from the Russian Flight Center at Baikonur, Kazakhstan, at 9:30 a.m. Moscow time.
The spacecraft was carried into orbit by a Soyuz-U rocket. The launched was implemented by a military crew of the Federal Space Agency.

The craft is expected to dock with the space station at about 9:00 Moscow time on August 14. It is carrying fuel components, water, tools, experimental equipment, medicine, food and personal packages for the crew (currently commander Gennady Padalka and engineer Edward Michael Fink), as well as for the team that is expected to set off for the station on October 9 of this year.

Included in the cargo are the crewmembers' favorite DVDs and videos. The present Mir crew has checked the Kurs automatic docking system in preparation for reception of the supply ship. On July 30, the Progress M49 spacecraft was launched from the space station loaded with refuse. It landed in the Pacific Ocean on the same day.
