Patriarch Alexiy II Kept a Diary
The late Patriarch Alexiy II of Moscow and All Russia, who died past Friday, had kept a diary, RIA Novosti reported citing the Moscow Patriarchate briefer Vladimir Vigilyansky. Vigilyansky had been very close to Alexiy II in the last four years and lives near the patriarch’s residence in Peredelkino.
“He had once showed me his diary that he had kept every day,” Vigilyansky said. “You may imagine the number of those notebooks,” he added, specifying that there were dozens of them.

According to the sources, Alexiy II had kept the diary since elected the patriarch, i.e. at least for 18 years.

The destiny of personal belongings and church documents of the late patriarch is to be decided by a special commission for accepting the property of the late patriarch that the Holy Synod set up at the extraordinary meeting on Saturday. The commission is chaired by Archbishop Evlogy of Vladimir and Suzdal and amid its members are Archbishop Kirill of Yaroslavl and Rostov, Bishop Alexander of Dmitrov, Archpriest Vladimir Divakov and Archpriest Sergiy Nikitin.

Under the charter, all church property that belonged to patriarch by virtue of his position is the property of Russian Orthodox Church, while his personal belongings are inherited in accordance with laws.
