Peugeot Plans Sales Spike in Russia
French carmaker Peugeot plans to increase sales in Russia in 2009 by 20-25 percent over this year, general director of the Peugeot Citroen office in Russia Stephane Le Guevel told journalists. The French executive said Peugeot intends to sell about 60,000 cars on the Russian market. It also intends to add 30 more dealerships in Russia.
Le Guevel also said that the construction of a Peugeot plant in Kaluga will not be delayed, but will go into service on schedule in 2010. The company will choose the models it will produce in Kaluga in the next two months. There are no plans to raise the prices of Peugeot models sold in Russia “in the near future.” The French company has had good sales in Russia, in spite of the economic crisis. In the first half of this year, the company sold 20,331 cars, 96 percent more than in the first half of last year. It expects sales to reach 50,000 by the end of this year, twice what it sold in 2007.

PSA Peugeot Citroen is Europe’s second largest automobile manufacturer. Its net profit in the first half of the year rose by 49 percent to ˆ733 million, compared to ˆ492 million in the same period of last year. Its sales in the first half of this year grew by 1.6 percent to ˆ31.3 billion, compared to ˆ30.82 the previous year. Operational profit in that period reached ˆ1.12 billion, which is 32.4 percent higher than in the same period of 2007 (ˆ842 million).
