Putin Advised to Russians to Keep Money in Rubles
For the people living in Russia, the ruble is the preferable currency for savings, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said, specifying that every Russian will independently decide on it.
The government will prevent abrupt fluctuations of ruble, Putin pledged in the air of Vesti 24 TV Channel. But neither the imports nor the exports of currency will be restricted, according to the prime minister.
The Central Bank of Russia, the CBR, allowed the ruble to gradually depreciate past month. In the fall, the CBR was injecting funds from the foreign exchange assets into the currency market to rescue the ruble from slump.
The basic outlook that the Finance Ministry and the Economic Development Ministry elaborated for 2009 spells out the exchange rate of 32 ruble/$ for 2009. Consumer prices have stepped up 12.5 percent in the country since the start of the year.
A special program, “The Conversation with Vladimir Putin”, is broadcast by Rossia, Vesti 24 TV channels as well as Mayak and Radio of Russia radio stations.
