Russia, EU to Negotiate about Basic Agreement in Winter
Russia and the European Union will probably conduct the third round of negotiations related to the new basic agreement in late January or early February, Mayak radio station broadcast citing Russia’s Ambassador to the EU Vladimir Chizhov.
Chizhov said no definite date has been set but he thinks the negotiations will be held in late January or early February. The expert groups will meet on the eve of the new round, the ambassador specified.

After the break of five months, Russia and the European Union resumed the talks about the future partnership and cooperation agreement in Brussels on Tuesday. The decision to revive the negotiations was taken during the RF-EU summit in Nice November 14. Europe had terminated negotiations in response to the conflict in South Ossetia, and Poland and Lithuania were against their revival because of the situation around Georgia.

The new agreement is due to replace the agreement, which expired in late 2007 but which was automatically extended.

Another good news is that NATO's foreign ministers resolved to gradually resume the dialogue with Russia in Brussels on Tuesday. The Alliance terminated the work of NATO-Russia Council following the war in South Ossetia, having reasoned that Russia’s response to Georgia’s assault was disproportional. After it, Russia announced the wind-up of the military cooperation with NATO.
