Cos. Cut Back on New Year's Fetes
Twenty percent of Russian companies have cancelled their New Year’s celebrations due to the financial crisis, the website superjob.ru reports. Fortunately, 58 percent of companies’ holiday plans remain unchanged. Thirty-two percent plan to mark the holiday in a restaurant.
Sixteen percent of companies will hold festivities on their own premises, and 8 percent of companies will hold events in another facility belonging to the same corporate structure. Two percent of companies are organizing trips out of the city for the holiday.

Nineteen percent of companies say their plans have not been made firm yet. Five percent of companies do not observe the holiday, although some of them pay a yearend bonus.

Forty-six percent of companies acknowledge that their holiday merrymaking budgets were cut this year. A quarter of those companies say their budgets were cut severely, while 24 percent say the cuts were minor and some say that the cuts were not related to the crisis. Thirty-one percent say their holiday budgets were increased over last year.
