Ukraine No Longer Buys Electricity in Russia
Ukraine has halted electric energy imports from Russia today, December 1, 2008, RIA Novosti announced citing Fant Di, spokesman of Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Ministry.
The imports of electric energy from Russia would be lowering to reach zero by December 1, Mr Di said earlier.

Despite that Ukraine used to export electric energy to Russia in 2007, it set to buying it from Russia September 15, 2008. The purchase was attributed to unscheduled repair of the second unit of Khmelnitsky nuclear plant. Under the estimate of Fuel and Energy Ministry, the prices for electric energy imported from Russia were 12 percent less than on wholesale market.

Ukraine had been selling electric energy to Russia for nearly a year, from November of 2006 to September of 2007.
