Russia’s General Staff Responds to Saakashvili
Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili endeavors to evade responsibility for unleashing the war in South Ossetia by blaming the aggression on Russia, Interfax reported citing Russia’s General Staff Chief, General-Colonel Anatoly Nogovitsyn.
“It is the attempt to evade responsibility resulted from his decision to start a military operation against South Ossetia,” Nogovitsyn said when commenting on the statement that Saakashvili made during the sitting of parliament’s commission.
Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili acknowledged on Friday he had decided to undertake military actions in Tskhinvali. The president announced it before the parliamentary commission probing into the August war.
According to Nogovitsyn, Saakashvili’s allegations that Russia had been the first to move troops to Georgia don’t correspond to reality. “It’s paranoia. Cannot be cured. Saakashvili has no way-out, so he will be saying it,” Nogovitsyn explained.
