Nearly 3/4 of Russians Are for Tougher Control
The Russians mostly support recent proposals of President Dmitry Medvedev concerning establishment of political system and civil society development, Interfax reported citing sociological polls held in the country.
Some 72 percent of respondents in Russia approve of Medvedev’s proposal to toughen controlling functions of the RF State Duma, whereby the government will annually report to the parliament members, signaled the poll of All-Russia’s Center for Public Opinion Studies.
According to November polls, 68 percent of respondents back up granting the legal guarantees for the media coverage of activities of the parties that advanced to the State Duma. Each second Russian (48 percent) agrees with the president’s proposal, whereby the parties that gather from 5 percent to 7 percent of votes will get one or two seats in the State Duma.
At the same time, 30 percent of respondents oppose the reduction in number of signatures that the parties collect to run for the State Duma, 29 percent don’t hail the proposal for appointing the governors only from candidates put forward by the party that won in the region, and 28 percent don’t favor the reduction in minimal strength of the party required for its registration.
