Naftogaz Claims It Owes Nothing to Gazprom
Ukrainian Naftogaz denies any debts to Russia’s gas monopoly Gazprom and calls on policymakers and mass media to halt their artificial speculations.
Naftogaz has released a statement saying the company has no debt in arrears to Gazprom and calling on mass media, policymakers and experts to halt artificial speculations in respect of the issue, as they may impair the progress in negotiations for gas supplies to Ukraine in 2009.

In another defensive effort, Naftogaz has reminded that Swiss RosUkrEnergo has been the sole supplier of natural gas to Ukraine in 2008.

Under the executed hand-over acceptance reports, Naftogaz went on, it owes $1.267 billion to RosUkrEnergo for the gas consumed in 2008.

The company is doing its utmost to redeem indebtedness as soon as possible, Naftogaz emphasized in the press release.

Gazprom and Naftogaz plan to shift to direct supplies of gas to Ukraine from January 1, 2009, and RosUkrEnergo will no longer be involved in the chain.
