United Russia Unites with Agrarians
Delegates to the tenth congress of the United Russia Party have voted to unite with the Agrarian Party, RIA Novosti reports. The party has passed a decision for the regional and structural divisions of the Agrarian Party to merge with United Russia. Chairman of the United Russia Party Supreme Council and speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov said that 45,000 Agrarian Party members have already applied for United Russia Party membership.
Former chairman of the Agrarian Party Vladimir Plotnikov was elected to the Supreme Council and Supreme Council Bureau of the United Russia Party at the congress. The merger of the parties was announced on September 12. At the Agrarian Party congress on October 10, that decision was approved. Secretary of the Presidium of the General Council of the United Russia Party Vyacheslav Volodin stated previously that the parties would be merged, and the Agrarian Party was not being liquidated.
