Yuri Dolgoruky Submarine to Take Sea This Year
Yuri Dolgoruky newest strategic nuclear submarine will take sea before this year-end; its reactor will be set into motion in November, Sevmash (Severodvinsk) General Director Nikolay Kalistratov told RIA Novosti.
Sevmash set to constructing Yuri Dolgoruky submarine (project 955, Boreas) far back in 1996. Its displacement equals 14,720 tons/24,000 tons, the maximum submergence depth reaches 450 meters, velocity – 15 knots/29 knots. The crew consists of 107 submariners (55 officers). The G4 submarine Yuri Dolgoruky may remain underwater without submerging for 100 days.

“The reactor will be launched before late November. Mooring tests have been basically completed. It will take sea for the trial trip this year,” Kalistratov specified.

According to Kalistratov, the construction of two more submarines of the project, Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh, is in line with the schedule. “Everything is up to the plan,” he specified.

Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh submarines of Boreas type have been constructed since 2004 and 2006 respectively. The plans are to construct and make operational seven nuclear submarines of Boreas type by 2015. The construction of Yuri Dolgoruky cost 23 billion ruble ($890 million).
