Czech Parliament Shelved U.S. Radar Consideration
The Czech Parliament will deliberate on the U.S. radar deployment in the country no sooner than a new administration arrives in Washington, Miroslav Vlcek, who is the speaker of the Czech Parliament’s House of Representatives, made clear during the meeting with his Russia’s counterpart Boris Gryzlov.
“Miroslav Vlcek said the House of Representatives has shelved the issue till appointment of new administration of the U.S. president,” the State Duma’s news service announced.
The United States is willing to station a radar in the Czech Republic and ten interceptors in Poland as if to defend against the possible attacks from Iran. Russia views the project as a threat to security.
In his November 5 message to Federal Assembly, Medvedev said that Russia will station Iskander missile facilities in the Kaliningrad Region in response to the U.S. missile shield in Eastern Europe.
But Russia’s president made a gesture of goodwill on the eve of G20 summit, when he signaled that Moscow was ready to compromise over the plans to station Iskanders in Kaliningrad.
The actions are the response and will be taken in case of the actual deployment of the radar and interceptors, Gryzlov emphasized, calling on the Czech MPs to reject the bill.
