Obama’s Victory Won’t Warm Russia’s-U.S. Relations
The victory of Democrat Barack Obama won’t rapidly improve Russia’s-U.S. relations, forecasted Mikhail Margelov, chairman of the Federation Council Foreign Committee.
No need to look forward to warmer relations of the countries, Margelov said, specifying that the United States and Russia will proceed with the random cooperation, mostly in non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons and fighting terrorism. The joint work of various international institutions under the major regional and global problems will continue, Russia’s senator forecasted.
“In B. Obama’s team, there are enough of those that, choosing my words carefully, treat Russia rather coldly, for instance, representatives of Eastern Europe’s lobby headed by Brzezinski and Albright. So, the work with components of the U.S. missile defense system in Eastern Europe will be hardly terminated,” Margelov said.
At the same time, Margelov went on, Obama pledged to negotiate with no matter whom in the foreign policy. The United States will probably become more active in Afghanistan and might even set to the gradual and slow withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
Obama has a lot to deal with except Russia. Amid his concerns are Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, energy and food security, financial crisis. Russia isn’t the absolute priority of the U.S. foreign policy, the senator said.
