SuperJet Tests Continue in Novosibirsk
The new Russian civil airliner Sukhoi SuperJet 100 was transported to Novosibirsk for key testing, RIA Novosti reports. General director of the Novosibirsk Aviation Production Association Andrey Kalinovsky said that the aircraft will undergo testing on the ground, and will not be flown while there.
Tests will determine the lifespan of the SSJ 100 in Novosibirsk. The aviation association states that the aircraft should be able to withstand about 70,000 flight hours. The lifespan of other Russian-made aircraft ranges from 25,000 to 30,000 flight hours. Sukhoi Civilian Aircraft completed factory testing of the SSJ 100 on October 24 and the aircraft was transferred to an international committee for certification. The SSJ 100 has made a total of 40 flights and spent about 100 hours in flight. It has flown about 11 km. in that time.
Development of the SSJ 100 began in 2001. The total cost of the project has been $1.4 billion. The state has financed 30 percent of the work on the plane. The catalog price of the jet will be $23.4-28.8 million, depending on options chosen. It will be able to transport 78 to 98 passengers up to 3120 km. Sukhoi has 98 orders for the plane.
