Duties on Cars to Rise Selectively
The Russian government will reconsider the import duty on foreign cars to support their production within the country, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov has announced. “Necessary correction will be made to customs duties regulations so that investors who are implementing their own projects and producing automobiles are able to carry out production on the Territory of Russia. That is, we will raise duties on analogical automobiles produced abroad,” Shuvalov told journalists.
“We hold that the investors that have already bought the equipment, built plants and are making automobiles in the Russian Federation, or who will soon be making automobiles, should have the confidence that their product will be acquired. And it must be competitive with the imported product, that is, imported automobiles,” Shuvalov concluded.
