Tymoshenko Will Forgive Yushchenko
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is continuing her efforts to establish a new coalition in parliament. “For the sake of forming a coalition of Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense, the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and the Litvin Bloc, I am ready to meet any reasonable requirements of the president,” Tymoshenko said on Ukrainian Channel 5 television, RBC Ukraine reports. “I am ready to sit down with [Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko] at the negotiating table. This is a case when I am ready to forgive all offenses. I am ready to support all reasonable suggestions the president makes and I’m ready to support and move forward the team that wants to move forward together for the sake of Ukraine,” she continued.
Tymoshenko stated that a coalition format consisting of Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense, the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and the Litvin Bloc was created during the voting on anti-crisis measures. “We support it but, unfortunately, the president still has not abandoned early elections,” she said. Tymoshenko also said that she does not intend to resign from her office.
Tymoshenko has tried before to organize coalition in parliament and avoid early elections. She proposed a “coalition to protect from the world financial crisis,” but the president called the idea “inappropriate.” Instead, the president temporarily restored the parliament that he had dissolved so that members could approve anti-crisis measures. Anti-crisis measures were passed by the Supreme Rada on October 31. They were a condition for a $16.5-billion credit from the International Monetary Fund. That money will be used to stabilize the Ukrainian economy.
Yushchenko set early parliamentary elections for December 7 after the collapse of the Orange coalition. The Tymoshenko government has been refusing to provide funds for the needs of the Central Elections Commission, however. Yushchenko postponed the elections to December 14, but no preparations for them are being made.
