Russia Ranks 2nd in Arms Sales
Russia ranks the second worldwide in the value of arms deals, Reuters reported with reference to the survey elaborated for the U.S. Congress.
The value of Russia’s worldwide deals reached $10.4 billion in 2007; it followed the United States that had nearly $25 billion, and Britain ranked the third with a bit less than $10 billion.

India and China remained the largest buyers of Russia’s weapons. But Moscow took pains to attract clients in North Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia.

Not long go, the survey specified, “Russia has increased sales efforts in Latin America” first time after the end of the Cold War. Venezuela is the biggest client that Russia has gained in the region.

According to the survey masterminds, Russia’s weapons are popular with developing nations because of the cheaper prices, which have enabled Russia to occupy unique niche on the market of weapons supplies.

It should be mentioned that the United States has recently attempted to weaken its major rival in arms deals, having extended the Iranian sanctions to Russia’s state weapon exporter Rosoboronexport. The latter was accused of cooperating with Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
