Traffic Police Names Most Popular Models for Carjacking
The Traffic Police Department has disclosed the list of most popular models for carjacking in Moscow. The cars made by Volzhsky Automobile Plant (VAZ) have retained leadership.
As many as 1,625 VAZes were carjacked in Moscow from January through September; the 12th and 14th models were the most popular, said Alexander Podolny, deputy chief of the Moscow Traffic Police Department.

When it comes to foreign cars, carjackers evidently prefer the cars of Japan make. The theft of Toyotas (mostly Corolla and Camry) reached 739, and Mazda’s record (mostly Mazda 3) was 537.

Amid other cars popular for carjacking are Volkswagen (449 àâòîìîáèëåé), Lexus (406), Mitsubishi (367), Honda (357), Audi (242).

In the premium section, the criminals stole 28 Porsche Cayennes, five Hummers and three Bentleys.

Some 9,242 cars were stolen in Russia in January through September, which is 9 percent less than a year ago, Podolny pointed out.

The West Administrative District of Moscow led in number of car thefts (1,290), South Administrative District had 1,220 cases and 1,174 cars were stolen in South-East Administrative District. Of all car thefts, 40 percent were committed at night.
