Financial Crisis Will Be Highlight of President’s Address
Global financial collapse will be the highlight of address to be delivered by Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev, said Vladimir Pekhtin, first deputy head of United Russia’s faction in the State Duma.
Nowadays, the crisis reveals itself in reduced construction volume, redundancy, restrictions on opening new credit lines for the companies. “Although to a lesser extent, the signs of the crisis have revealed themselves in our country as well,” the lawmaker said.

In current environment, the president’s priority is to retain and strengthen the past decade’s achievements of Russia’s economy as well as the solid international standing of Russia, Pekhtin specified.

But the president won’t ignore the so-called traditional targets, the ones related to social problems, provision of housing to Russia’s military, improvement of defense capacity of the country, the progress in national projects and the tasks for improving the nation’s welfare. “So, of interest will be what aspects he will lay emphasis on and what tasks he will set to the Federal Assembly,” the lawmaker said.

But the date of the president’s address to the parliament is yet unclear. The address has been shelved for a few days and the situation on financial markets is generally believed to be the key reason of the delay.
