Sanctions Deprive Boeing of Titanium
New economic sanctions may interfere with Russian titanium deliveries to Boeing, ITAR-TASS reports, citing a defense industry source, due to the fact that the sanctions cover not only Rosoboronexport, but its subsidiaries as well. The world’s largest titanium producer is VSMPO-AVISMA in Verkhnaya Salda, a Rosoboronexport subsidiary. The company will eventually be transferred to the state Russian Technologies Corp., that process is still underway.
The American administration published official notification of the sanction against Rosoboronexport and other companies on Thursday. They are suspected of distributing technology that can be used for the creation of weapons of mass destruction. The press service of the Boeing Moscow office said that the situation with titanium deliveries will become clear only next week, when the U.S. State Department gives a detailed explanation. Rosoboronexport has called the sanctions an unfair trade practice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the sanctions had no basis in international law.
