Russia, China, India Together vs. Crisis
Russia will coordinate its effort to overcome the financial crisis with India and China, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced at a press conference. The finance minister of Russia and China will meet during the meeting of the finance ministers of “The Twenty” in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in November. The conference on the financial crisis that will take place on November 15 in Washington will also be important, Lavrov added. “The main thing is that they not only gather together, but that they also work on the basis of collective analysis,” he said.
Lavrov also stated that Russia will oppose any steps that might undermine the relationship between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA reported recently that it had not found evidence of “a military aspect to Iran’s nuclear program,” although it confirmed that the country was enriching uranium. That report, published last month, states that Iran continues to block attempts by the agency to confirm accusations that it is conducting research and experiments aimed at creating nuclear weapons. It also confirms that Iran continues to increase its uranium enrichment capacity.
Iran had urged the IAEA not to give in to U.S. pressure when preparing its report. The Iranian government claims that it is not creating atomic weapons and that it has the right to the “peaceful atom.” The high-enriched uranium it is preparing could potentially be used to make nuclear weapons and has caused concern in the international community. The five permanent members of the UN Security Council (the United States, Great Britain, Russia, France and China) and Germany are taking part in negotiations with Iran.
