U.S. Sanctions on Rosoboronexport
The administration of U.S. President George W. Bush has imposed new unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the elite of the Iranian armed forces. Besides the Guards, which have been classified as a terrorist group by the United States, sanctions are extended to all organizations that have dealings with it, including Rosoboronexport.
In addition to Rosoboronexport, the sanctions apply to companies in China, North Korea, South Korea, Sudan, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. The U.S. State Department considers all of those companies accomplices in the supplying of equipment to Iran that can be used to create weapons of mass destruction or methods for their delivery, such as nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles.
The sanctions have a term of two years and consist of a ban on any cooperation from U.S. government organizations, the purchase of their products or the use of their services. The companies also lose the right to buy military technology in the United States or to order services related to the military.
