Olympic Deputy PM May Be Appointed
The Russian government may be enlarged by one deputy prime minister who will be in charge of preparations for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, radio station Echo of Moscow reports. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has approved a proposal by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to that effect. The new deputy prime minister would be the eighth in the current government.
No one has been mentioned to fill the new position yet. One possible candidate is Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Vitaly Mutko. The possibility of appointing the former head of the Russian Soccer Union to a position of that type was mentioned when he first took office.

The ministry that Mutko heads was created in May of this year. The functions of Russian Federal Agency for Physical Fitness, Sports and Tourism, which had been headed by Vyacheslav Fetisov until October 8, were transferred to that ministry last week.
