St. Petersburg-Helsinki Ferry Service Halted because of Crisis
The ferry service between St. Petersburg and Helsinki has been halted for indefinite time, RIA Novosti reported. Whether the ferry traffic will be ever resumed is unclear.
Stella Lines, the sole shipping company with ferries running from Finland to St. Petersburg, announced termination of voyages on Wednesday, promising to pay back the money for reserved tickets. But no one will compensate for the visa and/or hotel losses.
Ferries of Stella Lines set to Helsinki-St. Petersburg route August 1, 2008. The traffic had been halted in mid.-1990 and all shipping companies endeavoring to cover that direction always failed because of the low demand.
