Russia’s Giant Valuev to Fight Holyfield
WBA heavyweight champ Nikolay Valuev of Russia will fight Evander Holyfield. Valuev’s team proposed the bout, the web of ESPN TV reported with reference to Holyfield.
The contract hasn’t been inked yet, his lawyer is dealing with it, Holyfield said. The plans are to hold the match December 20, 2008 either in Germany or in Switzerland. Earlier, Russia’s boxer intended to fight Australian Kali Meehan December 6.

Holyfield that will be 46 years old October 19 last fought with Russia’s Sultan Ibragimov, then the WBO title holder, and lost to him in scores.

The American will get less than $750,000 for opposing Valuev, although the definite amount is yet unknown. He had never earned so little for the champion matches, Holyfield complained, specifying, however, that he welcomes the chance to fight for the champ belt again.

The first professional match of Holyfield dates back to November 15, 1984, the weight category of up to 86.2kg. Having triumphed there, he moved to the heavyweight category, where he was the four-time champion. Holyfield was the world’s absolute champion in 1990 through 1992.
