CIS Sanctions against Abkhazia Don’t Make Sense, RF Foreign Ministry Said
The CIS sanctions against Abkhazia have lost any sense after the latter declared independence, the RF Foreign Ministry says.
“Nowadays, in view of the principally new reality, the sanctions that were once imposed on Abkhazia have lost sense. Two new independent states, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, have emerged on the international scene. We proceed from it and we draw the attention of other CIS member-states to it,” First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov said in the interview with Interfax.

At the same time, the official emphasized that Russia has no intention to impose its point of view on other CIS members. “We certainly understand sensitivity of this issues. We don’t intend to screw arms of our commonwealth partners. We are sure, the life will eventually prompt correct decisions to them,” Denisov pointed out.
