Air Force Exercises with Nukes
The Russian Air Force will carry out Stability 2008 strategic exercises from October 6 to 12, during which strategic deterrence with the use of nuclear arms will be developed. The Russian Air Force information and public relations service reported that a long-distance aviation squadron will make practice launches of cruise missiles to destroy training targets on testing grounds.
In addition, long-distance squadrons will perform complex training exercises meant to eliminate armed conflicts, terrorist activities, natural disasters and manmade catastrophes, as well as for strategic deterrence and guaranteeing the security of the Russian Federation. There will also be exercises in overcoming the enemy’s air defenses, in operations in conflict zones, cooperatives operations and escort operations.
About 20 airplanes will take part in the exercises, including Tu-95MS, Tu-160, Tu-22M3 and about 20 MiG-31 and Su-27 backup and cover planes and Il-78 and A-50 refueling planes.
