Russia’s Inflation at 10.6% Jan-Sept
The inflation reached 0.8 percent in September vs. the forecast of 0.4 percent to 0.6 percent. The prices grew 10.6 percent from early this year vs. the 11.8-percent annual target of the RF government, Russian Statistics Committee (Rosstat) reported.
“The consumer price index was 100.8 percent in September and 110.6 percent from early this year,” RIA Novosti quoted the statement of Rosstat. The inflation stood at 0.8 percent in September of 2007, but the figure didn’t exceed 7.5 percent from January to September.

The initial expectation of bureaucrats was that the September inflation would equal the August indicator of just 0.4 percent. But those hopes didn’t materialize.

With the average September inflation of 0.8 percent, consumer prices stepped up by over 1 percent in 27 regions of Russia. The leaders, Kaluga region and Adygei Republic, suffered from the 1.7-percent surge in prices for goods and services.

Moscow inflation was just 0.5 percent in September and 9.6 percent from early this year, while St. Petersburg had 1.2 percent and 11.2 percent respectively.

Meat prices continued their growth in September, according to Rosstat. Chicken legs surged 7.1 percent, beef, pork and minced meat stepped up 3.4 percent to 3.5 percent, while sausages and wieners increased 3.2 percent. Fish grew 2.3 percent, honey increased 3.7 percent and salt went up 2.6 percent. The prices for certain dairy and canned vegetables increased from 1.1 percent to 2.0 percent.

As to nonfoods, the diesel fuel prices shed 2.4 percent in September, petrol lost 0.8 percent to 2.0 percent and cement went down by 1.9 percent. At the start of the heating season (late September), fuel prices grew 3.3 percent for the population, including the 5.7-percent increase in coal prices.
