A European State to Represent Russia in Georgia
One of European states will represent Russia’s interests in Georgia, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the RF ambassador to Georgia Vyacheslav Kovalenko. Kovalenko returned to Moscow a few days ago following the rupture of diplomatic relations.
“The negotiations are underway about which state will stand for Russia in Georgia. The issue is yet unclear,” Kovalenko announced during a news conference in Moscow.

According to the ambassador, the vital thing is not to break all ties to the end but rather retain the chance of “some contacts with Georgia.”

“I think we will find a form for the status so that our diplomats have immunity and perform duties related, first of all, to the work of the consular service,” Kovalenko added, specifying that five diplomats and the servicing staff are still in Russia’s embassy in Georgia.

No contacts have been maintained, the ambassador made clear.

Georgia broke off diplomatic relations with Russia after the latter recognized independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
