Putin Meets Tymoshenko in Novo Ogarevo
Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with his Ukrainian counterpart Yulia Tymoshenko in Novo Ogarevo residence outside Moscow October 2, 2008. It is the second get-together of the PMs this year, Interfax reported.
The sources say the highlight of the meeting will be the future gas and oil cooperation of the countries, and the issue related to the RF Black Sea Fleet stationing won’t be raised during the talks.
Ukrainian government counts on concluding a long-term strategic agreement on gas supplies before the end of this year. The elaborated agreement doesn’t specify any definite price but defines the terms of supplies, a well-informed source in Moscow said on condition of anonymity.
As to the gas price, Ukraine is pressing for the interim period to enable it to gradually transfer to the world gas prices.
Ukraine pays $179.5/ths cu meter of Central Asia’s gas imported from Russia in 2008. But Gazprom chiefs said the price may soar to above $400/ths cu meters in 2009.
