Putin Sceptical about Future of Agreements with Ukraine
The uncertain internal political situation in Ukraine questions the agreements that Moscow and Kiev have already attained, Russia’s PM Vladimir Putin said, hoping, however, that they won’t have to rewrite the documents, Interfax reported from Novo-Ogarevo residence October 2, 2002.
“Instead of being held in the environment of improved relations, our meeting unfortunately takes place in rather complex conditions. It results from uncertainty in decisions related to internal political situation in Ukraine,” Putin said during the talks with Ukrainian PM Yulia Tymoshenko.
“In this case, the agreements that are attained today call for a small question mark: what will happen to them tomorrow?” Russia’s prime minister posed a rhetorical question. “But we proceed from the fact that the vital issues for our states won’t be revised if we agree on them, as it is extremely important for our citizens and economies.”
Gas is the obvious highlight of the current get-together of prime ministers. Tymoshenko has already expressed Ukrainian readiness for the market prices for Russia’s gas.
Nowadays, Ukraine pays $179.5/ths cu meters for gas imported from Russia. “We have grounds to agree about the market prices,” Tymoshenko specified.
