FSB Stopped 120 Terrorist Groups This Year
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has halted activities of 120 terrorist and extremist groups, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the RF President Dmitry Medvedev.
Fighting bandit units aimed at the country’s destabilization, especially in the North Caucasus, remains the concern of Russia’s security bodies, President Dmitry Medvedev declared in the Kremlin’s George Hall during the ceremony of presenting officers for senior commanding posts.
The key sources of funding the bandits are arms and drug smuggling and transnational groups of criminals, the president said.
Protection of state borders will strengthen, as the means of high technology will be used for this purpose, the president went on. He also emphasized the vitality to widen cooperation within the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and CIS.
Ensuring safety of Olympics and Paralympics 2014 will be one of key targets of the FSB and internal bodies in the nearest years, Medvedev promised.
