Georgia Refuses Russian Electricity
Georgia has stopped importing electricity from Russia through the Salkhin high-tension power line 220, which runs through Abkhazia, Interfax information agency reported Thursday, citing Anya Bregvadze, head of the public relations department of the Georgian Electric System Commercial Operator. “It will be determined in the next few days when the crossflow between Georgia and Russia will be restored and how much there will be,” Bregvadze said.
Bregvadze added that the crossflow between Georgia and Azerbaijan has also been stopped and electricity supplies from Turkey have been resumed. Georgia has stated repeatedly that it does not need electricity imports from Russia. In 2006, the United Electricity Distribution Company of Georgia stopped importing Russian electricity.
