Russia’s Admission to WTO to Strip It Of Any Sense
Russia’s entry into the WTO will makes of no sense the existence of that organization, the RF Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeev announced.
“In my opinion, as soon as Russia enters the WTO, this organization will cease to operate, as it will lose the meaning of certain opposition to other poles, both economic and political ones. In the world, Russia, for instance, is a pole like that. Today’s WTO is the staff of developed states, better to say, of a well-known country that controls everything, first of all in view of the interests of its economy,” RIA Novosti quoted Gordeev as saying at Chita press conference.

The WTO is “a hypocritical organization, to certain extent, detrimental to global economy,” Russia’s minister said.

“All issues are being considered from purely commercial point of view. At the same time, such field as agriculture isn’t regarded also as a life-supporting industry for quite a number of nations, social aspects aren’t taken into account. And the main thing is that the existence of quite different standards for one or another country,” Gordeev said.

In this respect, Russia’s leadership endeavors to pass global agricultural policy to the floor of U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization. “In FAO, all issues are also considered in view of humanitarian tasks, it is the problem of famine and fighting poverty, and ensuring agricultural development in general,” the official added.

Russia has been negotiating the WTO membership for over a decade already.
