Georgia Revises Military Doctrine
Georgia’s Defense Ministry, experts, including the foreign ones, set to revising the country’s military doctrine and concept of safety.
Deputy Defense Minister Batu Kutelia said the authorities hadn’t taken into account potential large-scale military aggression of Russia. But such aggression took place and, therefore, the concept of safety and defense planning should be revised.
Not only Georgia but also its partners, including the NATO, especially the Baltic States, would revise their military doctrines, the official said referring to the available information.
Georgia’s military had been prepared for conflicts of low intensity but had to oppose the large-scale aggression, explained David Darchiashvili, who chairs the European Integration Committee of Georgia’s Parliament.
Meanwhile, the actual changes in the military doctrine of Georgia are yet unclear. Georgia is receiving financial aid from the West, and Tbilisi hosted the meeting of NATO members not long ago. The allies spared no efforts to manifest solidarity with Mikheil Saakashvili and Russia’s Foreign Ministry called the summit the anti-Russia’s action encouraging Tbilisi for new adventures.
Past night, Georgia’s military fired on frontier post in Abkhazia’s Gala region, but the shooting ceased once the return fire was brought down. It was the first provocation of Georgia from the end of the war.
