Chavez Threatened Washington by Russia’s Bombers
Russia’s Tu-160 strategic bombers that landed at the military air base Libertador, Venezuela, are a sort of warning to the U.S. empire, Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez vowed Thursday.
“The presence of those Russian planes in Venezuela is a warning,” Chavez announced referring to two Tu-160 bombers that landed at the military air base Libertador in Palo Negro. According to Venezuela’s president, the presence of those bombers signals that they are no longer alone and that Russia is with them. Earlier, Chavez promised to personally fly one of the bombers, as he trained specially for it.
The U.S. Department of State called Russia’s bombers the relic of the Cold War, while the U.S. Navy’s Fourth Fleet commander pledged to keep an eye on the flights of Tu-160s.
Russia and Venezuela hold joint military exercise November 10 through 14. The plans are that Russia will be represented by the vessels of the North Fleet headed by nuclear cruiser Peter the Great. According to the RF Foreign Ministry, the exercise isn’t related to the Caucasus clashes, as the respective agreement had been attained before the start of the conflict of Georgia and South Ossetia.
