Usmanov’s Company Called Successful Bidder for World Third Copper Deposit
Mikhailovsky GOK Mining & Processing Enterprise of Alisher Usmanov’s Metalloinvest has won the license for Udokan copper deposit, the Chelyabinsk region, Interfax reported with reference to Anatoly Ledovskikh, chief of Russia’s Federal Subsoil Resources Management Agency, Rosnedra.
Mikhailovsky GOK will invest over 100 billion ruble in the deposit, a source with the tender commission specified. People in Mikhailovsky GOK didn’t confirm the victory, but pointed out they presented the project on Wednesday and that presentation was taken very positively.

The tender results were decided in Moscow September 10 instead of the scheduled September 17, said representatives of Transbaikalia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology.

According to previous reports, only two consortiums continued the fight for Udokan as of early Tuesday. They were the Russian Copper Consortium of RZD, Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK) and Development Bank and the tandem of Mikhailovsky GOK and state-run Rostekhnologii.

Soyuzmetallresurs, which is a part of Oleg Deripaska’s Basic Element, and GMK Norilsk Nickel, had abandoned the plans for the country’s biggest and the world third copper deposit.
