Georgia vs Russia Trial Set Into Motion in The Hague
The U.N. International Court of Justice that decides on the disputes between the nations has set today to emergency hearings of Georgian suit to Russia.
Georgia blamed on Russia the arrangement of ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, saying that the better part of ethnic Georgian residents of the region suffered from it. One of demands of Tbilisi is that Abkhazia and South Ossetia let in the Georgian refugees that had to flee from their houses because of the military conflicts.
The recent hostilities in South Ossetia turned over 150,000 people living in the area adjacent to Georgia into refugees or displaced persons. Most of the Ossetians have returned to their homes, while the residents of Georgian villages located in the region are still in Georgia.
South Ossetian authorities first rejected to accept ethnic Georgians, but agreed to ensure their safety in the end.
Moscow also declared that is may go to the international law to bring to account Georgian leadership that had sanctioned the assault on August of 7 and 8. The criminal case, on genocide count, has been opened in Russia, as roughly 2,000 residents of the region didn’t survive that military operation of Georgia under the estimate of Russia and South Ossetia.
