Lavrov Calls for Embargo on Arms Supplies to Georgia
The world community should impose an embargo on armaments supplies to Georgia, the RF Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in the Moscow State Institute of Foreign Relations (MGIMO) Monday, September 1, 2008.
“To avoid repeated offenses in the region, it would be proper to begin with imposing embargo on the weapons supplies to that regime, until other authorities make a normal state out of Georgia,” Lavrov said, specifying that Russia will proceed with the actions so that “the regime of Mikheil Saakashvili could never do evil again.”

When commenting on the EU summit that begins in Brussels on Monday, Lavrov hoped that the EU will decide on Caucasus “with regard to the vital interests of Europe.”

Should the partners be unready for joint actions, Russia would have to work independently, but always under the international laws, the minister pointed out. For Europe, it’s time to return “to simple, not geopolitically-loaded values, Lavrov emphasized.

The attempts are underway to scare Russia by Germany, saying it will set to conquering the world anew if out of the NATO cage. “For us, the German issue has been solved finally,” Lavrov said, adding that Russia won’t allow anyone to drive a wedge in its relations with Germany.
