Saakashvili Agreed with Peace Plan in General
Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili has agreed in principle to the peace plan over South Ossetia. Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev and French President Nicolas Sarkozy endorsed the draft for hostilities cessation a day before.
According to Sarkozy, the issue of South Ossetia’s status has been crossed out of the draft by demand of Georgia. The status of breakaway South Ossetia and Abkhazia will be decided later and with involvement of the international community.

The draft provides for the immediate ceasefire, establishment of humanitarian corridor and withdrawal of Georgia’s and Russia’s troops to the previous position. It will be presented to the E.U. foreign ministers August 13 and used as guidelines to make out a legally binding document, Sarkozy specified.

Saakashvili said he supports France when it comes to immediate ceasefire and troops withdrawal. But Georgia won’t yield in the issues of territorial integrity and return of the refugees.
