Russia’s Peacekeepers Didn’t Enter Georgia
Russia’s peacekeepers didn’t enter Georgia but for unrecognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia, General Staff Deputy Chief General-Colonel Anatoly Nogovitsyn specified during a briefing in Moscow, RIA Novosti reported.
By making this statement, the general refuted allegations of Tbilisi about the capture of Georgian towns by Russian military.

After the peace-enforcement operation, which end President Dmitry Medvedev announced August 12, the troops “will remain at the captured position lines ready to respond to potential actions of Georgian military.”

The general probably referred to the territory of South Ossetia up to the border with Georgia. South Ossetia’s capital Tskhinvali is under complete control of Russian and South Ossetia’s forces, according to the recent reports.

Nogovitsin vowed not long ago that the Russians would proceed with reconnaissance in Georgia after the ceasefire.

Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev announced on Tuesday the successful end of the military operation in South Ossetia. “The aggressor has been punished,” and security of peacekeepers and civilians has been reestablished. But the sources of aggression would be destroyed should there be another escalation, Medvedev warned.
