Medvedev Ordered to Halt War in Georgia
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered to halt military operation for enforcing the peace on Georgia, Vesti 24 TV Channel reported.
“The objective has been attained. Security of our peacekeepers and of our citizens has been restored, the aggressor has been punished… His armed forces are disorganized,” Medvedev announced. But the president issued instructions to take the destruction decision should any centers of resistance emerge.
Russia won’t be in talks with President Mikheil Saakashvili, the RF Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced earlier. “He has committed crimes against our citizens.” According to the minister, Saakashvili ordered to ride down by tanks and burn alive civilians, justifying those actions by defense of the U.S. values.
Given the above, Lavrov said, he told U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that Saakashvili couldn’t be Russia’s partner any longer. But Rice, set to calling her Europe’s colleagues to say that Russia is seeking the overthrow of current regime in Georgia. “Russia has no plans either to overthrow or enthrone anyone. This is the business of others,” the minister emphasized.
