Georgia's Snipers Shoot Civilians Outdoors
Georgian snipers shoot civilians when they leave shelters. The people have to go outdoors for water, South Ossetia's Committee for Printed Matter and Information said in a statement August 9, 2008.
"The children, old people, women are short of water, and children cannot endure the thirst any longer," the committee said. "Thousands have been killed and wounded in South Ossetia. The people are under the ruins of buildings and there is no chance to come and rescue the ones still alive. "It is practically impossible to drive away from the city the children, old people and women, who have actually no more places to hide… They are moving from one cellar to another, into which they can run yet."
Tskhinvali is under another shelling attack from Georgian villages, spokesmen of unrecognized Republic of South Ossetia said not long ago. Civilians have been hiding in cellars for three days running, without any supplies of gas and electricity. They have no water left and the food will end soon.
No medical aid is provided for lack of medicine. One of the shelling attacks destroyed the hospital in the city.
According to previous reports, Georgia again attacked Russia's peacekeepers, using the Grad systems of salvo fire for this purpose and killing and wounding a few people. Tough battles are being fought mostly in the southern outskirt of Tskhinvali.
