Fire Ceased in Tskhinvali
The battles in South Ossetia’s capital Tskhinvali have ended, ITAR-TASS reported with reference to Kazbek Friev, the commander of Ossetia’s peacekeepers battalion.
The city lies in ruins, the electricity isn’t supplied and they are short of drinking water. Stationary telephones don’t operate and mobile phones will be silent very soon, as there is no way to charge batteries.

Georgia’s troops besieged Tskhinvali for nearly 12 hours. The shell attacks, air attacks and street fights destroyed the hospital and other facilities of municipal infrastructure. The gas pipeline was blown up as well.

But Ossetia’s military forced back Georgia’s army when Russia’s tanks entered the city. Despite the ceasefire, the exact number of victims among civilians, South Ossetia’s troops and peacekeepers isn’t known yet.
