Saakashvili Lashed Out at Russia’s TV for Military Propaganda
Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili has accused Russia’s TV of military propaganda that resulted in the aggravation of Georgia’s-South Ossetia’s conflict.
According to Saakashvili, today’s events are the result of policy of many years, hysterical militarization and continuous military rhetoric and the military propaganda on Russia’s TV of the last few days. Georgia’s president made the respective statement Thursday when visiting the hospital, where the wounded soldiers of Georgia had been delivered past night.
The confrontation in Tskhinvali region isn’t in the interests of Georgia or Russia, Saakashvili emphasized, urging to demilitarize the conflict area and stop violence.
The situation in the conflict area of Georgia and South Ossetia aggravated after the large-scale shootout of the night to August 2, which was aimed at the residential districts of South Ossetia’s capital Tskhinvali. Six residents of that breakaway republic were killed and 15 were wounded during that attack. The shooting continued past night, wounding 14.
According to peacekeepers, Georgia was usually the first to open fire, and the cases of shooting Russia’s peacekeepers were recorded as well. Georgia was firing from combat vehicles, artillery, small arms, grenade dispensers and mortar guns.
