Albanians Ready to Reshape Balkan Borders Again
After the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo, the situation in the Balkans has become more explosive instead of more stable, people in the RF Foreign Ministry say.
“The information is available that various Albanian groups in the states of the region are coordinating efforts to march off together to further reshape Balkans’ borders,” the RF Foreign Ministry’s 4th European Department Director Alexander Alekseev said as quoted by Interfax.
But the breakaway province may itself divide into the Albanian and Serbian portions, the official said. “It is evident that, as a result of the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo, the province is splitting. The Kosovo Serbs that didn't embrace independence have established their own institutions of power at places of residence,” the diplomat explained, pointing out that it isn’t the matter of split yet in legal terms.
What’s more, the states that have recognized independence of Kosovo are pressurizing official Belgrade to negotiate with the self-proclaimed Albanian leadership of the province, to no avail though.
The adherents of Kosovo independence may even attempt to pressurize other states on the eve of the UN General Assembly dedicated to legitimacy of proclaiming the independence of Kosovo by the Albanians.
Alekseev cautioned against too hasty decisions on Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also criticized an idea canvassed in the West that calls for liquidating the Republic of Serbia as it had been allegedly established through criminal methods.
